Assigning Content to a Screen

You can send a single piece of content, a full playlist, or a schedule to any screen. This page explains all three, and what happens when they meet.

Option 1 — Send a single content item

Use this for a screen that should show one fixed image or video.

  1. Click Content in the left menu.
  2. Find the file you want, open its three-dot menu (⋯) and click Set to Screens.
  3. Filter by client and channel if it helps, then select the screens.
  4. Confirm.

The screens start playing that file on loop within seconds. It keeps playing indefinitely — there is no expiry to set.

Option 2 — Send a playlist

Use this for a screen that should loop through a sequence of content.

  1. Click Playlists in the left menu.
  2. Open the playlist's three-dot menu (⋯) and click Set to Screens.
  3. Select the screens and confirm.

Each screen begins playing the playlist from its first item.

Option 3 — Send a schedule

Use this when different content should play in specific windows.

First, create a schedule and add its items.

  1. Open the schedule.
  2. Click Set to Screens.
  3. Select the screens and confirm.

Those screens follow the schedule from then on. To check which schedule a screen is following, open the screen from the Devices list — the Now Playing panel names the schedule in control.

Assigning to several screens at once

Every Set to Screens dialog is multi-select. Filter by Client and Channel to narrow the list, then tick the screens you want.

Screens are always chosen individually. Tags help you find and organise screens in the dashboard, but they do not target content: a new screen added later never inherits an existing assignment because of its tag. Send to it explicitly.

Each screen reports its own result, so if one screen fails you can see which and retry it.

How direct content and schedules interact

This is the part that decides what is actually on the glass.

A schedule window takes over when it opens, and takes over for good. The content that was playing beforehand does not come back when the window closes. When a window ends, the screen goes idle.

Content you send during an open window overrides that window. The device page shows Direct content is overriding the schedule, and:

  • Your content keeps playing past the end of the window it interrupted.
  • The next scheduled window still starts on time and takes over by itself.
  • Resume schedule on the device page hands the screen back to the current window immediately, if you published by mistake.

The practical consequence: a standing assignment is not a safety net under a schedule. If a screen must never be empty, cover the hours with schedule items rather than relying on something underneath them.

Changing what a screen shows

Send new content, a new playlist, or a new schedule to it using any of the options above. The newest thing you send wins, and the screen updates within seconds.

You do not need to remove the old assignment first.

Clearing a screen

  1. Open the screen from the Devices list.
  2. Clear its assignment.

The screen shows the idle screen — a designed screen that names the device and tells whoever is in front of it to assign content from the dashboard. It is not a fault, and it is not a blank panel. A screen with a template shows the idle screen too.

If the screen is following a schedule, clearing its direct assignment does not stop the schedule. Archive the schedule, or remove that screen from it, to stop scheduled playback.
